Zambia safari travelers get a more interesting consultation than expected. The sleeping sickness notice adds trypanosomiasis to the post-safari fever differential alongside malaria, which is the kind of thing that gets missed on return. Devil's Pool schistosomiasis counseling is specifically important — that is direct Zambezi exposure, not incidental contact.
Two additions for 2026. Cholera has been circulating since August 2025, with Northern Province the epicentre and sporadic cases in Lusaka; the practical instruction is bottled or treated water without exceptions, which most safari travelers are already doing. And mpox has been reported in Copperbelt Province, which is also the area under the 2025 heavy metal contamination alert — worth flagging for anyone with business rather than safari reasons to be there.
