Vanuatu: don't let Level 1 fool you — full malaria chemoprophylaxis is required, and chloroquine-resistant P. vivax is pharmacologically unusual enough that the primaquine terminal prophylaxis conversation matters, with a G6PD test first.
There is now a second mosquito conversation to have alongside it. The Ministry of Health declared a dengue outbreak in South Efate, Shefa Province in June 2026, concentrated around Pango and the Port Vila peri-urban area — which is where most travelers actually stay. Anopheles bites from dusk to dawn and Aedes bites during the day, so Vanuatu is one of the few destinations where a traveler genuinely needs round-the-clock mosquito protection rather than a single well-timed routine.
