What that advisory no longer contains matters as much as what it does: no ordered departure, no shelter-in-place guidance, no closed posts. Family members may join US government employees again. The State Department still describes an ongoing threat of drone and missile attacks from Iran following the February 2026 onset of hostilities, and that is the reason for the level.
The clinical picture underneath has not changed and it is a good one — no malaria, no yellow fever requirement for direct US arrivals, and in Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi some of the finest medicine anywhere in the world. The item I would not let a traveler leave the visit without is the medication question. UAE controlled-substance law is genuinely strict, and medications that are entirely routine in the US — codeine-containing preparations, some anxiety medications — are criminal offenses there. Verify every one before entry and carry documentation, because an arrest can carry an exit ban that keeps you in the country indefinitely.
One thing the current advisory does not say either way: what consular services US Embassy Abu Dhabi is actually running, and Consulate General Dubai is not mentioned on it at all. If a trip depends on consular access — a passport replacement, a legal problem — check the post directly rather than assuming.
