Peak season runs May to October, and 2026 has followed that pattern: the National Environment Agency recorded just over 600 cases between January and mid-May, a 66% decrease against the same period in 2025, before weekly counts climbed through June and July. By the week ending 1 August 2026 the year-to-date total stood above 1,700, with 119 cases that week and an eighth consecutive week above 100. Seventeen clusters were active, six of them carrying 10 or more cumulative cases; the largest by a wide margin was Countryside Road/Lentor Avenue at 228 cases. For context on how variable this is, Singapore's worst year was 2020 at 35,315 cases and 32 deaths — 2026 is a comparatively mild year in a rising phase, not an emergency. One dengue death was recorded between January and March 2026. Aedes aegypti bites during daylight, peaking around dawn and dusk; DEET 30-50% is essential and a single morning application is not enough. There is no vaccine suitable for short-stay travelers. Project Wolbachia has cut Aedes populations sharply at release sites but has not eliminated transmission. The practical step most travelers don't know about: NEA publishes a live dengue cluster map, so a traveler can check whether a specific hotel or neighbourhood address sits inside an active cluster before booking or on arrival. Prior dengue infection with one serotype raises the risk of severe dengue on reinfection with another — worth asking about before travel.
