Physician Note
Poland is a destination that often surprises in the conversation with its clinical content — first: the Global Polio THN. Poland was added to the circulating poliovirus detection list and the THN recommends a single lifetime IPV booster for fully vaccinated adults. I frame this to patients as a brief; protective step given the detection data — not an emergency; but a prudent addition to the travel preparation.
Second: TBE for Białowieża. This is one of the most clinically important TBE conversations I have — Białowieża is the last primeval old-growth forest in Europe; ticks are abundant in the undergrowth of this ecosystem; and many of my patients who are going to Poland specifically want to see the European bison there. TICOVAC discussion is mandatory for Białowieża visitors.
Beyond those two points; Poland is a fundamentally safe European destination with good healthcare; safe food and water; and low crime. Be sure to consult your Dr. prior to travel to discuss.
